Hello! Today, I am sharing a project made for a super cool TGIF Challenges black background challenge. What’s cool about this challenge is that I don’t typically work with dark background colors, let alone black, so this one really made me think “outside the box”! However, I loved playing along and now, I’m in love with using darker backgrounds! Here is the challenge….
Drum roll for the result please….
This card uses the Meant to Be stamp set from Stampin’ Up, with the hearts and sentiment stamped in Melon Mambo. I also heat embossed a vellum sheet to make the white heart design pop up for texture. The heart shapes are cute from the matching Stitched Be Mine Dies using Melon Mambo, Whisper White, Pineapple Punch and Bermuda Bay cardstock.
The Basic Black card stock background was embossed using the Subtle embossing folder for a nice textured effect. I like how it adds some texture without overtaking the card design and allowing the colours to really be the star and pop out!
I had so much fun, that I used some of the extra “negative bits” to make a second card. This time, using a traditional white background and textured Stitched Labels dies. What do you think of the difference? They were both fun to create, but I really do like the look of the black background!
UPDATE: I’m super excited to announce that this card was chosen as one of the Challenge winners. I’m so humbled to be chosen by such a talented group of artists. Thank you so much TGIFC! Please check out the winning announcement here.
